Prof. Tobias Schumacher: Officially the New Member of the Academic Advisory Board, Institute for European Politics, Berlin

Prof. Dr. Tobias Schumacher was recently appointed a member of the Academic Advisory Board at the Berlin-based Institute for European Politics (IEP).

Along with this new role, professor Schumacher holds positions as an Associate Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for International Studies (CEI-IUL) at the University of Lisbon and as the holder of the Chair in European Neighbourhood Policy.

He was previously a part of the University of Mainz, the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin, the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, and the Euro-Mediterranean Study Commission (EuroMeSCo).

After having earned his doctorate in Political Science at the University of Mainz in 2002, Prof. Dr. Schumacher was awarded several grants and fellowships, the most notable of which are by the Foundation of the German Economy, the Fondazione Monte Paschi di Siena, the European University Institute, the European Commission, the University of Cambridge, and the Harvard University.

Professor Schumacher has also taught at the Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Mainz University, Universite Hassan II Casablanca, Munich University, Johns Hopkins University, the Dublin European Institute, and the European University Institute, and authored and co-authored around 90 books and papers on the Foreign Policy Analysis, Middle East and North Africa politics, Euro-Mediterranean relation, and the European Neighbourhood Policy.  

His presence at the Academy Advisory Board should contribute to the overall mission of the Institute for European Politics, which is to apply scholarly research to issues of European politics and integration and promote practical implementation of its research findings.
