Cardozo’s Board of Overseers bid a fond farewell to David Samson ‘93, who served the role of Board Chair from May 2014 - May 2018. Ira Dizengoff ‘92 is his successor, and he is going to be the new leader during the following school year, 2018 - 2019.
The Dean of Yeshiva University, Melanie Leslie, took this opportunity to say a few things about the new Board Chair: “Cardozo has had a period of tremendous growth and it is important that we continue to build on that momentum, Ira’s history with Cardozo and his renowned position in the legal world make him the ideal person to help the law school continue to rise as a leader in legal education.”
In fact, since 2011, Ira Dizengoff has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America as the leading lawyer in bankruptcy and creditor debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law. Furthermore, the Best of the Best Expert Guide has recognized Dizengoff as one of the world's top 30 restructuring and insolvency professionals.
After becoming the new Board Chair, Dizengoff answered a few questions and offered his guidance to Cardozo graduates.
When asked, “Who was your favorite professor at Cardozo?”, Dizengoff could not make his pick. He said that the professors who have influenced him to a great extent were Professor David Rudenstine and Professor Stewart Sterk. What he valued about them was that they were incredibly smart, engaging, and surprisingly accessible to all students.
He also had some advice for the new Class of 2018; Dizengoff said that, at the start of their careers, students have to be inquisitive about everything, regularly do their homework, think critically, and not be afraid to ask questions.
