Somali students intending to take up the University of Dundee Center for Energy Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) LLM in Mineral Law and Policy program have a chance at taking the course for free. The CEPMLP currently offers the Energy Industry Scholarship to a deserving incoming LLM student of Somali origin. The candidate must be offered admission to the LLM program for its September 2018 intake prior to applying for the scholarship.
The postgraduate Energy Industry Scholarship will fully fund the entire tuition fee and will provide the awarded LLM student with stipends each month for the next 12 months that the student will take the program. The stipends will cover the student's living expenses. Travel expenses will also be provided to the Somali student, which comprise of a two-way ticket to travel to Scotland, where the University of Dundee is located, and back to Somalia upon completion of the LLM degree.
Besides the offer of admission to the LLM program, the scholarship applicant must also provide the CEPMLP Administrator with a 250-word supporting statement, a copy of the photo page of the passport and a statement that the candidate is not affiliated to any Somali government official. Application for the scholarship is ongoing, the deadline of which is 9 March 2018. Shortlisted applicants will undergo a Skype interview starting 29 March 2018.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Somalia and the chosen scholar will be connecting throughout the duration of the LLM program. The candidate will also draft as its Master's thesis a study relevant to Somalia's energy sector. Upon completion of the LLM degree, the Ministry will provide the scholar with full-time employment for a minimum of 12 months.
