In recognition of China's "Belt and Road Initiative," the Peking University STL offered the Belt and Road Scholarship for its LLM program. To give a brief background, the Belt and Road Initiative was launched to facilitate trade, drive economic cooperation and develop infrastructures all over Europe, Africa, and Asia. The initiative has paved the way for the bringing together of various languages, cultures and legal contexts. This initiative requires lawyers who can ensure its smooth implementation, and who can help resolve any conflicts that may arise.
To encourage such lawyers, STL is offering the scholarship that covers 25% of the tuition fee of the STL LLM program. Awarding the funding will be merit-based and open only to applicants from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. The deadline for both the application for the LLM program as well as the Belt and Road Scholarship is 31 March 2018.
Besides those mentioned, the scholarship applicant should also be a holder of a law degree or a Master's degree in a related area, or licensed to practice law in their country of origin. English proficiency may be demonstrated through a TOEFL grade of 92 (iBT) or IELTS grade of 6.5 (with 7.0 in writing).
