border search exception

the US criminal law rule that allows people to be stopped, searched, and arrested at places where they can cross from one country to another. The rule allows authorities to conduct such searches without official specific permission and without the usual need to for reasonable suspicion that the person being stopped has committed a crime.
Routine searches that would otherwise be considered unreasonable are permitted due to the “border search exception” to the 14th amendment’s due process requirement.
