What kinds of tasks are included in the course?
The course includes four main types of task:

1. Note-taking tasks
2. Language tasks
3. Short writing tasks
4. Longer writing tasks

Note-taking tasks
The Legal Writing course includes many tasks aimed at improving your note-taking in English, an important part of the writing process. All note-taking tasks are contained within the main reading text that accompanies most lessons. The notes that you take are for your own use.

We recommend using Word for the note-taking tasks as you will also use Word to complete some of the follow-up writing tasks. However, you can also use any other note-taking software, or use pen and paper. When you have completed your notes, click on the green 'Complete lesson' box to move on to the next lesson. Do not submit your notes to your trainer.

Language tasks
Some lessons include language tasks such as true or false questions, multiple choice questions, and gap-fill activities. Click on the blue 'Take quiz' button to see the task. Please follow the on-screen instructions for each task.

When you have finished the task, click on the green 'Complete quiz' button. You will receive immediate automated feedback.

Short writing tasks
Some lessons include short writing tasks. Click on the blue 'Take quiz' button to see the task. Please follow the on-screen instructions for each task.

When you have finished the task, click on the green 'Complete quiz' button. Your trainer will provide feedback for the short writing tasks.

We recommend that you write these tasks directly into the text box and make sure that your internet browser's spelling checker is turned on and set to English. This will help pick up any basic errors. Alternatively, you can write and spell-check these tasks in Word and then paste them into the text box.

Longer writing tasks
Some lessons include a longer writing task. Examples include redrafting contract clauses, writing letters, and writing legal memoranda. Click on the blue 'Take quiz' button to see the task.

You should submit these tasks to your trainer as a Word file. Your trainer will provide feedback using the comments and track changes features in Word.

Before submitting the longer writing task you should first do the following:

1. Write the task in Word.
2. Use an English language spelling and grammar checker to proofread your work (this will detect many basic errors and allow your trainer more time to focus on more detailed feedback.
3. Save your file using the filename given in the blue task box.

We hope that you enjoy the course.
