Lawyer-Linguist - a new profession

The globalisation of the legal profession means lawyers throughout the world are increasingly required to practice law in English. To meet the language needs of these lawyers, a new profession is arising and TransLegal is at its forefront.

TransLegal,which is based in Stockholm, Sweden, has grown rapidly over the past few years. The company is currently concentrated on producing Legal English products, such as the cooperation with Cambridge ESOL to produce the world’s first internationally recognized test of Legal English, the writing of a bestselling coursebook in Legal English published by Cambridge University Press and the introduction of TransLegal’s online Legal English courses, including a new cooperation with the Boston University School of Law and Cambridge University Press to provide blended learning packages in Legal English to universities around the world (PLEAD).

In order to continue our growth we are currently looking for the following:

Lawyers with experience in writing Legal English teaching materials.
Lawyers who are interested in teaching Legal English to their local legal community. We can provide you with TransLegal’s Legal English products, such as the Legal English coursebook, other specific Legal English course material, on-line courses and other on-line legal English services, as well as general teaching support and advice on how to run a Legal English teaching business.
Language schools wishing to set up legal English courses in order to prepare for the International Legal English Certificate or providing other legal English courses. We can enter into a close cooperation whereby we provide teaching materials and other teaching support, as well as promotional material for, and information about, the ILEC exam.

In particular we are looking for:

In Sweden: Native English speaking lawyers for teaching live courses. Native English speaking lawyers for translation work from Swedish to English

In Germany: Native English speaking lawyers for translation work from German to English
