Online CoursesTransLegal’s online courses make it possible for lawyers whose demanding schedules make it difficult or impossible to participate in regular, live courses to study Legal English where and when it is convenient for them.

The Legal English 500™ is a 20-unit, interactive, online course which teaches 500 essential Legal English terms necessary for using English in the practice of law. This is a basic course designed to provide the learner with key Legal English vocabulary common to all areas of legal practice. After this course, the learner can then go on to learning the essential vocabulary in particular fields of law, for example Company Law, Contracts Law, and Commercial Law. The Legal English of Company Law is a 20-unit, interactive, online course teaching the essential Legal English terminology in the area of the law of corporations and business organizations, including formation, corporate powers, capitalization, corporate governance, M&A, and the winding up of a company. Each online course helps non-native English-speaking lawyers train their Legal English vocabulary and the possibility will exist, through what is commonly referred to as ‘blended learning’, for lawyers to train writing and speaking skills through scheduled email correspondence and telephone conversations with TransLegal’s native English-speaking lawyer-linguists. In addition, TransLegal will offer live seminars offered throughout Europe in conjunction with the online courses. TransLegal has selected legal documents such as statutes, case law, contracts, corporate documentation, letters, memoranda, and law journal articles containing key terminology essential for any lawyer wishing to practice law in the selected field. Exercises then follow the presentation of the terminology in the documents and the student works through these exercises online. The student’s results are recorded so he can monitor his progress or go back and re-do the exercises seeking to improve his score. The student can also train his listening skills by listening to simulated dialogues between lawyers, client-lawyer meetings, and other situations where lawyers are speaking. Again, these are followed by online interactive exercises. TransLegal’s online courses, like TransLegal’s live courses and seminars, are not intended to teach lawyers US or UK law but rather to teach the Legal English vocabulary non-native speakers of English need in order to be able to practice law in an international context.
