Legal English Testing

Cambridge International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)

The International Legal English Certificate is an advanced examination designed especially for the international legal community to determine whether candidates whose first language is not English have an adequate level of English to function efficiently, in terms of language ability, in an international legal environment. ILEC is produced and assessed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in collaboration with TransLegal.

Language Audit by TransLegal

In order to help law firms and legal departments in their choice of Legal English training and to determine the amount of study required to acquire a Cambridge International Legal English Certificate (ILEC), TransLegal offers a time and cost-efficient diagnostic test of Legal English. The test is available on-demand.

The Audit tests the full range of communication skills used by legal practitioners and takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. It consists of four parts: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. The tests are taken at the employer’s offices or other location designated by the employer.
A Legal English Audit Report, containing test results and recommendations for training, is provided to the employer within three days. The Legal English Audit Report is linked to the Council of Europe’s CEFR scale (see www.coe.int/T/DG4/Linguistic/CADRE_EN.asp).

The Legal Language Audit is available to firms or companies purchasing a Language Audit for a minimum of 12 persons.
