Teacher Resources

Teachers of Legal English for non-native speakers of English are well-acquainted with the problem of finding suitable and sufficient teaching material for their lessons.

Much of the material available on the market is either too substantive law based, written by lawyers for lawyers, and is not well-suited for teaching Legal English, or it concentrates too much on the language pedagogy and lacks the legal substance. To remedy this situation, lawyer-linguists at TransLegal teamed up with a teacher trainer and teacher of language competence at the University of Vienna to produce a coursebook in Legal English published by Cambridge University Press. International Legal English is the definitive coursebook in Legal English.

In promoting the Cambridge coursebook and the Cambridge International Legal English Certificate (ILEC), a test of English produced by Cambridge ESOL in collaboration with TransLegal, we have met many teachers of Legal English who have inquired about additional resources for teaching Legal English. To meet this demand, TransLegal has launched the L.E.T.S. (Legal English Teaching Support) programme.
