The University of Bonn is a public research university located in Bonn, Germany. Through seven separate faculties, the University of Bonn provides almost 80 different courses and subjects. At present, approximately 28,000 students and more than 4,000 academic and ancillary staff study, teach and work at the university's various faculties.
Notably, the University of Bonn was the first of Germany's large traditional universities to introduce a central graduation ceremony for all its graduates. As a result, this created a new university culture as regards their achievement. At an illustrious ceremony on the Hofgarten lawns in front of the Baroque backdrop of the main building, graduates are presented with their diplomas in the presence of family, friends and many members of the University. Dressed in gown and mortar board, each graduate proudly wears the colours of his or her Faculty.
The Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) is a research institute at the University in Bonn. It was founded in 1995, and since then the institute has been engaged in:
* Future-oriented research
* Political consultancy
* Events that link science with its practical application
* Graduate education and mid-career training
Thus, ZEI contributes to finding solutions to unsolved issues of the European Integration and the shaping of Europe’s international role.
* ZEI integrates legal, economic and social as well as cultural and political issues in an interdisciplinary context.
* ZEI offers academics as well as policy-makers, representatives of businesses, and lobbyists an international forum for discussion of all aspects of European integration.
* ZEI’s research is demand-driven and development-oriented in that the most prominent developments are being worked on and analyzed in independent research groups.
The Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI), together with the Center for Development Research (ZEF) is located in Bonn close to the UN-Campus, the House of German History, and the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The "Master of European Regulation of Network Industries" (MERNI) is a unique interdisciplinary postgraduate degree program.
The MERNI focuses on how European economic integration and related regulatory and legal developments shape the functioning of network industry markets and the strategic options available to legislators as well as business. Within this structure, a unique program has been developed that integrates the fields of law, economics and technology studies to give participants with the proper frame of reference to succeed in regulatory analysis and decision making. The program covers the network industries of telecommunications, energy, water, postal services and transportation.
In addition, the LL.M. may also be given to students, who have not completed any legal studies prior to the MERNI program. Upon completing the program's degree requirements, the University of Bonn grants participants the degree Master of European Regulation of Network Industries and awards an LL.M. Although the MERNI curriculum covers a variety of aspects relevant to the operation of the respective network industries, the LL.M. title reflects the program's main emphasis on the normative dimension of the network industry regulation. The other disciplines - economics and technology of network industries - are vital for the candidates’ ability to understand the rationale behind particular normative regulatory measures and to analyze possible impacts of their application; however, the main purpose of these components is that of complementing the legal regulatory knowledge of the candidates.
Graduate degree from an institution of higher education, preferably in the field of law, economics, engineering, IT or political science, where the standard period of studies have comprised at least six semesters. Relevant work experience is also preferred.
