Given that it is an independent, stand-alone law school, New York Law School is not a department or a division of any individual university. Instead, the law school is a subject-specific school based in Manhattan. Additional details about the law school are set forth below.
Founded in 1891, New York Law School is an independent law school located in Lower Manhattan near the city’s centers of law, government, and finance. New York Law School’s renowned faculty of prolific scholars has built the School’s strength in such areas as constitutional law, civil and human rights, labor and employment law, media and information law, tax law, real estate and urban legal studies, international law, financial services and regulation, and a number of interdisciplinary fields.
The School is noted for its nine academic centers: Center on Business Law & Policy, Center on Financial Services Law, Center for International Law, Center for New York City Law, Center for Professional Values and Practice, Center for Real Estate Studies, Diane Abbey Law Center for Children and Families, Institute for Information Law & Policy, and Justice Action Center.
New York Law School has more than 13,000 graduates and currently enrolls some 1,350 full-time students and 400 part-time students in its J.D. program and its four advanced degree programs in financial services law, real estate, tax, and mental disability law studies.
New York Law School offers four advanced degree programs that provide the specialized skills and knowledge needed to stand out in today’s job market and in the years ahead. Our graduate programs share a common goal: to provide advanced training so graduates have a thorough knowledge of the laws, regulations, policies, and transactions that their future clients will expect, as well as the skills to put that knowledge into practice. Each program is taught by an outstanding faculty of leading academics and practitioners, with courses held in the School’s brand-new, state-of-the-art academic building and online in a robust learning environment. And New York Law School’s prime location in Lower Manhattan—in the center of the city’s legal, financial, government, and corporate headquarters—provides students with unparalleled opportunities for hands-on learning.
