- The University of Melbourne is a public university located in Melbourne, Victoria. Founded in 1853, it is the second oldest university in Australia, and the oldest in Victoria. The main campus is located in Parkville, an inner suburb just north of the Melbourne CBD, however it has several other campuses located across Victoria.
The university has over 35,000 students and nearly 7,200 staff members.
- The teaching of law at the University of Melbourne began in 185, this was in response to demand from young men wanting to practice law in the colonies, but wanting to stay in Australia to study.
