For a variety of reasons, many students and practitioners choose to pursue an LLM in England. London has one of the largest concentrations of universities and higher education institutions in the world with over 40 institutions of higher learning.
Many of these universities offer LLM programmes to students and professionals who are in possession of a legally-recognised qualification or degree. Included among the institutions in London are many world-renowned schools that today make up the federal University of London, numerous other modern universities, as well as a number of smaller and often highly specialised universities and colleges.
An LLM in England, in and of itself, is normally deemed to be insufficient qualification to practise as a solicitor or barrister in England since this requires completion of the Legal Practice Course or Bar Vocational Course. An LLM in England, however, does provide a unique opportunity to gain specialist knowledge of a particular area of law and/or an understanding of various legal concepts and systems.
Of course, part of the appeal of taking an LLM in England is enjoying the benefits of living and studying in an English-speaking jurisdiction. For most universities at which you can obtain an LLM in England, if you have not carried out your prior academic work in English, you will need to take a language proficiency test to show you have the necessary command of the language to get the most out of your course.
TransLegal’s LLM Guide is the best place to begin your quest for an LLM in England. Our guide allows you to sort and search by city and region, as well as by course or programme. This guarantees that you will find the LLM programme in England which best suits you.
