Globalisation is bringing the world closer and lawyers need to learn the language of international deals, which is usually English. Lawyers around the world are turning to the Master of Law, or LLM Degree, to give them an advantage over the competition. In today’s competitive job market, an LLM Degree may provide an individual with the skills needed to distinguish themselves in the eyes of potential employers. An LLM Degree from a specialised program can give students a competitive advantage in the job market and help an applicant stand out. Lawyers may also choose to pursue an LLM in order to enhance their knowledge of a particular practice area and advance their careers. Many international students have already obtained a law degree in their home country and are seeking an LLM Degree in order to better compete in the global marketplace or to gain international experience.
An LLM Degree may be awarded in specialised areas such as tax, commercial, intellectual property or environmental law. In response to the challenges and needs of modern society, LLM Degrees are also being offered in new and exciting areas. Students can now pursue programs in various diverse areas, including International Human Rights, Intellectual Property, Taxation and International Security Law.
The majority of students pursuing an LLM Degree at American or British universities are international students, which means that most of these are non-native English speakers. Nevertheless, more and more European universities are opting to offer LLM programs in English in order to attract a diverse range of students. Although most programs are offered on a full-time basis, there are part-time or distance learning programs available for those wishing to combine their studies with work or who are otherwise unable to study full-time.
Is an LLM Degree a good investment? Well, that depends. Of course, like anything else, you’ll have to investigate and assess the benefits and drawbacks of taking a year (or more) to further your studies. Obtaining an LLM Degree can also be a very costly experience, particularly if you plan on studying in the United States. One of the purposes of TransLegal’s LLM guide is to provide you with all the information and preparation you need to determine whether an LLM Degree is something worthwhile for you to pursue.

what are the job prospects after studyin LLM in entertainment and media law and also intellectual property law
Rishanka,
As with all LLM degrees, an LLM in entertainment, IP or media law can only help your CV or resume. It may give you a leg up on the competition when pursuing a job at a law firm or company. This is particularly true in this field given that it is international by nature. An LLM from an English-speaking university may separate you from your peers.
What are the job prospects after doing LLM in Intellectual Property Rights?
Kaushik,
We can’t really answer that. Naturally, prospects depend on a number of factors such as the city/country in which you are looking for work, the reputation of the program you attend, your grades, previous work experience, etc.
