Here is the BIG question, especially for many Hollywood actresses—does winning an Oscar for best actress = divorce??
Well if you look at recent history, it looks like you should be prepared to get divorced once you’ve heard , “and the winner is..” and it’s your name being called. Let’s take a look at the latest victims.
According to the Envelope.com –Just days after last year’s Oscar winner Kate Winslet announced her split with hubby Sam Mendes, comes the news that the marriage of the latest Oscar winner, Sandra Bullock may be on the rocks. In Touch Weekly reports that Bullock’s hubby, Jesse James, had an affair on the sly while Bullock was filming “The Blind Side.” Let’s hope she had a “cheat clause” in her prenup.
Let’s have a quick study in divorce law—prenuptial agreements, so-called prenups to be specific.
Divorce Court 101: Prenuptial agreements will usually be enforced and adultery has nothing to do with it. The general rule in divorce is, particularly with prenups, –a contract is a contract is a contract. An agreement is an agreement is an agreement. Of course, the prenup could have had a “cheat clause” which essentially calls for a re-negotiation if either party cheats. As mentioned on divorcesaloon.com, supposedly Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones have such a clause in their prenup.
Just to add more fuel to fire of the Oscar curse, here are a few examples of other recent winners that also subsequently divorced. Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman come to mind. Reese Witherspoon and her husband Ryan Phillippe divorced soon after her win. And Hillary Swank got divorced soon after her win for Million Dollar Baby.
Are you doomed to divorce court if you win for best actress? Who knows, but I guess if you’re up for an Oscar it’s best to check your prenup first.
