Cambridge International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)
ILEC is a Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) examination
produced and assessed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in collaboration
with TransLegal. ILEC is the world’s first internationally-recognised
test of legal English.
Cambridge ESOL is a part of the Cambridge Assessment Group, which is in turn
a part of the University of Cambridge. Cambridge ESOL produces the Cambridge
ESOL examinations - the world's leading range of certificated exams for learners
of English. Each year they are taken by around 1.5 million people in 135 countries.
 |
The International Legal English Certificate is an advanced
examination designed especially for the international legal community
to determine whether candidates whose first language is not English have
an adequate level of English to function efficiently, in terms of language
ability, in an international legal environment.
|
The exam is used by legal employers to assess the legal English levels of job
applicants in the hiring process and to test existing staff before purchasing
English training. Job applicants use the ILEC exam to provide accurate and independent
proof of their language skills when seeking employment.
The Cambridge ILEC exam is recognised by leading international associations
of lawyers including the European Company Lawyers Association, the European
Law Students Association, the International Association of Young Lawyers and
the European Young Bar Association.
