a term used when something once mentioned in a legal document is subsequently mentioned again; the repetition is signalled by placement of this word before the repeated item
The property was surveyed in 1952, and a plan was drawn up; said plan was then duly recorded in the Registry of Deeds.
Additional Notes
- Said should be avoided as the worst kind of legalese, in fact, it is often used in parodies of old-fashioned, complicated legal writing. It can be replaced by the, that, this or any other signalling word.
