to officially state that a law, rule, regulation, decision or agreement etc is no longer valid or effective

Common Mistakes
- Retract, withdraw and repeal are nearly synonymous with revoke, but are used in different contexts. We talk about eg retracting a statement, withdrawing from a position, repealing a law and revoking an offer, licence, permission etc.
