a panel of one or more people who officially decide how an argument between two disputing parties should be settled The Irish Government is asking for an international arbitration tribunal to be set up under a UN provision to resolve the dispute.

  • Arbitration and mediation are forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Mediation differs from arbitration in that the result of mediation does not usually bind the parties, while the decision of an arbitrator, called the award is binding. Mediation is conducted by mediation tribunals.
