abandoned trademark noun

a trademark (=words or symbols that a company uses to identify itself, which are registered and protected against use by anyone else) that the owner no longer uses and will not use again in the future; a trademark that the owner has allowed to become a generic term (=commonly used in everyday speech without specific reference to the product it originally represented)
Corey Marshall bought the abandoned trademark to the name and began brewing an updated version of one of the original recipes.
